The National Hellenic Museum is the first U.S. Institutiondedicated to honouring Greek culture, art and history. Thebuilding incorporates historic architectural references suchas a covered walkway, or stoa, found in classical paganstructure and natural wood accents and elements common toByzantine monastic structures. The symbolic heart of the newbuilding is a dramatic, sky-lit staircase that represents theimmigrant experience, cultural ties to Greece and the limitlepotential of Greek Americans in the United States.
The 40,000sq ft facility includes exhibit spaces, a researchlibrary, an oral history center, and administration offices. Thebuilding is LEED certified.
